Trianco has a long history of manufacturing Oil and Solid Fuel boilers. However with a push to reduce carbon emissions, we no longer manufacture either. But, as we continue to sell spare parts and with many homes around the UK who still have a TRO or TRG boiler we receive many customer enquiries. Recently, a number of our customers have contacted us raising concerns about what options are available to them if they wish to replace their oil or solid fuel boiler. This includes people who don’t have access to natural Gas and are therefore “off-gas”. This blog will aim to answer the question – what is the best option to replace my solid fuel/ oil boiler?
Air Source Heat Pumps
An air source heat pump is an electronically powered device that absorbs air which passes through tubes containing refrigerant fluid to produce heat. Heat pumps are known for their high efficiency and are normally three times more efficient than gas boilers. Biomass Boilers
Biomass boilers are a renewable energy source, generated from burning wood, plants and other organic matter. Burning either wood pellets, chips or logs to provide power to your boiler. This releases carbon dioxide, but considerably less than fossil fuels.
Things to consider before purchasing a biomass boiler:
- Whether you have space for the boiler and the fuel
- Whether you have somewhere for the flue
- Whether you have a local fuel supplier
- Whether you need planning permission

Many people are also not aware that they may be eligible for Government Grants to have their off-gas heating system replaced for free under the ECO4 Scheme or via the Boiler Upgrade Scheme with a grant of £7500.
