Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme helps property owners install low-carbon heating systems by offering:
- Grants available:
- Up to £7,500 for air or ground source heat pumps
- Installer-led process:
- Your MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf
- Upfront savings:
- Grant is deducted directly from your installation cost
- Eligibility:
- Homes and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales
- Must have a valid EPC
- Must replace an existing fossil fuel system
- Excludes most new builds, social housing, and previously funded properties
- Benefits
- Lower upfront installation costs
- Potential reduction in energy bills
- Reduced carbon footprint
0% VAT on installation until March 2027

Warm Homes Plan
The Warm Homes Plan is a major UK Government initiative launched in 2026 to improve the energy efficiency of homes, reduce energy bills, and support the transition to low-carbon heating.
The Warm Homes Plan is a long-term strategy to upgrade homes across the UK, making them:
- Warmer and more comfortable
- Cheaper to heat
- Lower in carbon emissions
It focuses on modernising the UK’s ageing housing stock while helping households manage rising energy costs.
It combines grants, loans, and regulations to help households upgrade their homes over the next decade.
Key Targets & Funding
- £15 billion government investment
- Up to 5 million homes upgraded by 2030
- Aim to lift around 1 million households out of fuel poverty
It’s considered the largest home energy upgrade programme in UK history.
